Another feature of Charge Time is the ability to save the battery voltage and time as a TEXT file. This  file can be used in spreadsheets to graph voltage and time, to test battery performance. The sampling is once per minute and each line is just, the  Time, a TAB, Voltage, and a return. ChargeTimer 1.2, ChargeTimer Deluxe  1.1, and ChargeTimer Lite 1.0 are included in this pack.

This is a great  program for people with lots of memorywho tend to close files after looking at them rather than quiting the applications. After a few hours, there may  be a ridiculous amount of open application. Want an easy way to quit them  without going into each one? Just use Kill'em all, and quit them all at  once!
Wait!1.0.cpt             System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:U-Z:Wait!1.0.cpt     1.0              0      19K      6/15/93     Wait!1.0 - Wait! provides you with a means of changing the Finder’s rename  delay through a Control Panel, and without having to restart your machine. The rename delay is the amount of time the Finder waits after you have  clicked on a file’s name before allowing you to edit it. This control panel requires System 7.
Tiny Saver 2.2.cpt       System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:T:Tiny Saver 2.2.cpt     2.2              0      14K      6/15/93     Tiny Saver 2.2 - Tiny Saver is a very small screen saver. It does just what a screen saver is supposed to do and not much else. It is an application  which only uses about 30k of RAM and 12k of disk space. This version is a  'background only application' so it only uses 12k of RAM when it is in not  actually saving the screen. Being a background application, it will not  show up in the application menu and won't always end up in your face when  you quit other applications. It is a nifty blend of the features of a  system extension with the reliability of an application.

Select “New Timer” from the File menu to create a  new timer, and “Close Timer” to close the top (selected) timer. A maximum  of four timers are available in version 4.1. The “Start” button resets the  timer and begins counting up. The “Pause” button temporarily stops the  timer, and the “Resume” button restarts a paused timer without resetting  it. Also included is GraphMan, a program which makes your Mac look like its working hard, and Bragging Rights, a program which tells you all about  the mac you are running.

You can also remove PinkSlip easily if you get tired of it. Pink Slip also provides a means of quitting the Finder without modifying anything, which can be  done by opening the control panel, whether installed or not, and picking  the Quit Now button. When you quit the applications you were running, the  finder comes back, but not until then!

The menu retains its System 7  functionality, it just doesn’t have the icons. Using the Apple menu without icons speeds up the process, especially if you have alot of items under the Apple menu.

The conversion may be signed or unsigned (you can always enter a signed value, it will be converted to unsigned if needed); the result may be interpreted either as a word (2 bytes) or as a long word (4 bytes). The  Return and Enter keys start the conversion; Tab, shift-Tab and the four  arrow keys have their usual meaning. Requires System 7.

It sports background formatting, but only when the new Thread Manager is present (a new Apple extension). It is able to create larger  disks - you gain 8.5K on a 800K disk. Disk Charmer will erase the disk,  erase the catalog or verify, and names can be automatically assigned for  good and bad disks. System 7 dependent.

This is the first step to such a utility. This version  currently only handles applications. When you Restart or Shutdown from the  Finder, the same applications will be running when you start up again.  Future versions are planned to handle open documents, so when you start up  you truely are where you left off in your open documents. This INIT  requires System 7. It uses aliases in a new and unique manner.

The speaking times are set with a  schedule that you can change using ResEdit (with the extension  deinstalled). The speaking time schedule is from 8 am - 4.30 pm, every 30  minutes, from 5 pm - 6.45 pm, every 15 minutes, from 7 pm - 9 pm, every 60  minutes, and from 10 pm - 11 pm, every 5 minutes. TimeTeller uses only 64K  on disk and 32K in memory. Freeware.
QuickNotes 1.0b5.cpt     System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:P-Q:QuickNotes 1.0b5.cpt     1.0b5            0      16K      5/31/93     QuickNotes 1.0b5 - QuickNotes is a System 7 only Extension that allows you  to quickly and easily jot down notes on your Macintosh saving them for  later use with TeachText or any text editor. When in the Finder, choose the window that you would like the QuickNote to be created in. QuickNotes can  be created in any Finder window (except the Trash) and on the Desktop. Type the hot-key and the QuickNotes dialog box will appear. Type in the name of  the file and the text (up to 255 characters for now) that you would like  saved in the file. When you click OK, the file will be created and the  dialog box will disappear. If the file already existed you will be given  the option to rename it. You have just created a QuickNote!

This method make it easy to lock and unlock  multiple files without using the Get Info command from the Finder. This  produce requires System 7.0 and supports alias files. The behavior of  Padlock can be controlled by a preferences dialog box. The user can select  the types of files to lock and unlock, whether to operate on alias files  and/or the items to which they point, and operate on the contents of  folders and disks.

Drag a set of file, folder disk icons onto this program's icon and Attribute will change the file  information according to user specification.  This function only works on  files.  Dropping folders or disks onto Attributes will modify information  of the contents of the folder or disk. Information that can be modified  includes date of file creation / modification, creator, file type,  invisibility, and lock / unlock attributes. The user can operate on all  files or only files that match some criteria (such as creator, file type,  etc.).

David Pogue of MacWorld loved it's "super-cool  fuel gauge". MyBattery features include - A variety of graphical displays  of current battery voltage. Accurate estimates how much battery life  remaining - and it "learns" to adjust the estimate to be more accurate for  your particular PowerBook. Battery charger status (hi-charge, lo-charge,  running off internal battery).

Even though there are many such utilities out there, I wanted one with the drag and drop feature. Since I  couldn't find one, I wrote it myself. However, to lively things up a little I tried to alter the look of the interface somewhat. Will this be the  System 8 look, perhaps. The DOSWasher application will toggle text  documents, dragged onto it, from MS-DOS to Macintosh formats and vice  versa. It's even possible to mix Mac and DOS formats in the same batch,  since each file is checked individually before conversion. You can also  locate single files in a standard dialog box.

This folder  is sometimes created by the System after a crash and contains temporary  files in use by applications at the time your Mac crashed. In some cases  you might be able to salvage data from a file in the "Rescued Items"  folder. Place RescueNotify in your "Startup Items" folder to automatically  check for "Rescued Items" each time you start your Mac. Freeware.
PrefsCleaner 1.1.cpt     System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:P-Q:PrefsCleaner 1.1.cpt     1.1              0      29K      4/30/93     PrefsCleaner 1.1 - PrefsCleaner is system 7.0-dependent. If you aren't  using system 7.0 yet, you will get a warning saying you need at least  system 7.0 and the application will quit. PrefsCleaner checks for each  application, desk accessory, control panel and extension if it has a prefs  file in the Preferences Folder.  In this case the prefs file is marked.  When the search is completed, there may still be some unmarked  prefs files left. Those prefs files are considered to be redundant and can be deleted.

For example, I have my Finder configured so that if I  double-click a MacWrite or Microsoft Word document, it is automatically  opened with MacWrite II. There are other utilities around for doing this,  but what make mine different is that it’s a control panel, and lets you  make changes quickly, without quitting and restarting the Finder.

These menus work exactly like the Apple Menu they may contain any kind of items (applications,  documents, desk accessories, folders, aliases, control panels...).  Selecting an item in a menu will open it, as if you had double-clicked it.  The menu titles can be replaced by icons, which you'll find useful if you  have a small screen. AliasMenu needs System version 7.0 or higher. It  doesn't modify the System or the Finder in any way.

The "Change printer" function does  not work at this time. LaterLaser is a system extension which works with  PrintMonitor to enhance your system.  With this extension installed, when  you print to a LaserWriter printer which is not available (because the  printer is turned off, or your computer is not connected to the correct  Appletalk network), the document will be delayed indefinitely in the  PrintMonitor Documents folder in the System Folder. Later, when this  computer detects that the printer for a document is available, it will  cause the document to print immediately in the background.
DropSwitch 1.0.cpt       System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:DropSwitch 1.0.cpt     1.0              0      14K      4/21/93     DropSwitch 1.0 - DropSwitch changes the Creator of TEXT files via Drag and  Drop. There are a number of great utilities available that do the same  thing and even more. However,  this one is free, small and simple to use. To make good use of DropSwitch, you should have a basic understanding of  how to obtain the Creator of a file via ResEdit. I primarily use DropSwitch for converting AOL text files to TeachText. This can be accomplished by  using "ttxt" as the Creator. There is a small list of Creators included  within the program.

However, I was disappointed that the  buttons were still in only black and white.  They looked so flat!  So, I  wrote this little hack to finish the job that Apple started.  "Greg's  Buttons" is a control panel that replaces the standard black and white push buttons, check boxes, and radio buttons with color 3-D ones designed to  blend in with rest of the System 7 interface (including the color tinges  that you can select in the "Color" control panel). "Greg's Buttons" also  colorizes the stop sign, caution, and note alert icons.
BasicColorMonitor.cpt     System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:B:BasicColorMonitor.cpt                      0       4K      4/12/93     BasicColorMonitor - The purpose of the Basic Color Monitor system extension is to eliminate the problem that Macintosh Quadra 700, 800, 900, and 950  and Macintosh Centris 610 and 650 users may have with overly green screen  color on the Apple Basic Color Monitor and some non-Apple VGA (Video  Graphics Array) monitors. If you have one of these computers and are having problems with overly green screen color, you may want to try installing  this extension. It will correct the problem if you have an Apple Basic  Color Monitor, and it may correct the problem if you have a non-Apple VGA  monitor.

Normal TeachText  files have file type 'TEXT'. TeachText read-only documents have file type  'ttro'. Just drop either kind of TeachText document onto TEXT<->ttro, and  TEXT<->ttro will convert it to the other kind.

You specify search criteria (name, type, and/or creator) and  SuperFind will change all such files to the type, creator, and/or name that you requestAlias ---> Apple Menu - Simply drag and drop a file on top of  the Alias ---> Apple Menu icon and an alias to the file will be put into  the Apple Menu Items folder. And more goodies!

When tracking the battery session, the counter is NOT incremented during sleep states. When tracking AC charging sessions, it  DOES increment during sleep states. Neither counter increments during  powered off stateIt also displays available space on your hard drive,  available RAM, the speed of the CPU, the on/off state of AppleTalk, and  on/off state of the internal modem, if an"PowerStrip" does it's best to  save settings between sessions. It saves fontsize, style, and family, and  if it exits in one state and starts up in the same state (exit on battery  and start up on battery), it picks up where it left off.

If you have all the fonts that the picture was originally created with? Or what kinds of QuickDraw objects the picture contains. With System 7  Apple has provided a new and easy way to get information out of a picture  called the Picture Utilities Package. PICT Informer is simply an  implementation of GetPictInfo, the main call in that package. PICT  Informer will open PICT files or PICT resources and show the picture in a  window. To see the PictInfo information, choose Show Info from the File  menu or double-click in the picture's window. Freeware. Version 1.0

The  nightmare scenario is having the wrong type of RAM installed creating an  extra wait state in the 180 or 165c (causing slower performance), and it  usually means that one or two of the heat sinks that Apple installed had to be removed thereby voiding the warranty and risking damage to the  motherboard. A must for all PowerBook 180 and 165c owners.

It can be used for launching  applications and documents, restart and shut down, various file management  functions, and executing FKEYs. It requires System 7. The first time you  start your Mac with OtherMenu installed, OtherMenu creates a folder named  OtherMenu Folder inside your System Folder. You will see a menu with title  * (an asterisk) to the left of the help menu. Initially, the menu will  contain only one item, “About OtherMenu…”.

It is meant to be placed in  the System 7 Startup folder and should be named so as to be the last  application run.  When this is done, FinderToFront makes the Finder the  Front most application, then exits. This gets around the "problem" that the last application run at startup time is left in front and most of us want  the Finder to be in front.  If you run FinderToFront three minutes after  startup time, it puts up a simple about dialog.  Click on this dialog when  you have seen enough.

These problems are actually due to an interaction of a MAC ROM bug and the formatting of the disk. This software checks for  susceptibility only, and does not fix the problem.

Finally, AutoLock's Shell Mode provides a limited launching functionality that can be used in place of the Finder, somewhat like At  Ease (with no frills, however).

To do this, simply create a new folder next to the  existing one with the same name with “.alt” on the end. For example, to  create an alternative Desktop, create a folder called “Desktop Folder.alt”  in the root level of your startup disk. When AltFromMain Folders is  executed at startup, it will rename the folders with “.alt” on the end as  the main folder, and add the suffix “.main” to the original folder,  resulting in the alternative folder taking over from the original one.   AltToMain Folders does the reverse.

It's useful in cases where you have a file, but the icon isn't showing up, and you can't figure  out what kind of a file it is from the name.

With the command key down, you will get all sorts of information about the process corresponding to the icon selected.

If you are not plugged into a battery  charger, It modifies power settings soyou are in rest mode; System sleep is whatever you set it to be via the Portable control panel; HD sleep is  whatever you set it to be via the Portable control panel. Version 1.2  Cleans up source, adds a check for existing portables.
Insomnia.cpt             System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:Insomnia.cpt     1.01b            0       4K      1/01/93     Insomnia - This INIT sits and watches for when you plug the charger into  your PowerBook it will disable the PowerBookUs power-saving idle mode when  you do. The Power Manager cannot distinguish between a charger that is   connected to a live outlet, and a charger that isn't. Therefore, when you  plug a charger into your PowerBook, Insomnia will disable idle mode no  matter what. If the chargeis plugged into a dead outlet, or into no outlet  at all, your battery will discharge faster.

You may  customize the program to show different cities, and to take daylight  savings time into account. Version 1.2a requires System 7 and a monitor  with at least 640 pixels across. This means that it will not work on  Apple’s 12” RGB monitor. (You will not see all the clocks). I originally  designed this program with my PowerBook in mind to keep track of different  time zones while I was traveling, but soon found it useful on my desktop  machine as well.

TearOFFs works with all system configurations above 6.0.
RDiskNamer.cpt           System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:R:RDiskNamer.cpt                      0      10K     12/29/92     RDiskNamer - RAM Disk Namer is a control panel and system extension that  allows the RAM disk name to be changed conveniently and automatically to  the desired name on every reboot, including power-on. In order to function  correctly, this control panel should be placed in the Control Panels folder and its name should follow alphabetically the name of the Memory control  panel.

If you need to print an  EPS file created with QuarkXPress 3.1, QuarkXPress 3.11, Adobe Illustrator  3.0.1, Adobe Illustrator 3.2, FreeHand 3.1 or Adobe PhotoShop 2.0.1 through Aldus PrePrint or Aldus PressWise, but still keep your bleeds, then this is your program. EPS Bleeder examines the source EPS file or files, determines whether or not it can enlarge the bleed area (if it is a recognized EPS  format), and writes a new document in place of the old with the enlarged  bleed area.

Its purpose is to copy files back and forth between your  PowerBook and a desktop computer. Put Zync on either computer, then  configure it by selecting a "remote" and a "local" folder from the Setup  item in the Zync menu. In the Setup dialog you asked to enter information  regarding the "remote" volume. Zync can automatically mount and unmount the remote volume in order to do the file synchronization, so setup need to be  done only once.

It may be useful. Have your E  mail files read to you while you drink coffee. Teach your parrot, or other  pets, to speak like a computer. For System 7.0+ File_Reader II reads the  text of the target file and shows it in LARGE typeacross the window. This  application was written using the standard Units that came with Turbo  Pascal. If it crashes, please let me know.

When  prompted for the source file and target file simply chose the file and  where to copy it to by using the file dialog box. When you drag a window, instead of the outline of the  window, you'll drag the window. Drag'in also has a really cool option  called "Multitask while drag'in". If this option is turned on, via the  options dialog in the control panel, you'll be able to move around windows  and still continue processing while you are doing it. To see an example of  this, duplicate a big folder, and move around the progress dialog. You'll  notice that the duplication is still happening, even though you are moving  the window. Way cool!

Make aliases of it on your desktop and rename them  according to the desired option. Keep a number of Valets around in  convenient places. With them, you can move, delete, and alias files quickly and easily Just double click on a Valet to choose your options. The drag  and drop interface is pretty self explanatory. Desktop Valet does not work  on floppy disks.

One  machine acts as the "Campfire Server" and each machine on the net is a  "Campfire Client." The interesting thing about CampFire is that it's  implemented entirely in Frontier scripts, using networked Apple Events.  Campfire works with either Frontier or Frontier Runtime as the server or  client. Runtime is available as a shareware package. Full source code for  the scripts is included, so it can easily be customized or extended using  Frontier.

To use The Frog Prints _with_ System 7,  simply select the files you want to print and drag them on the program's  icon or an alias of it. The Frog Prints prints plain text files to the  printer you have selected in the Chooser.

Unbiased means that all printing characters (from ASCII 32 to 255) are considered in the analysis. Kerning Pairs, of course, are pairs of characters that can appear in text and that can have kerning applied between them. Frequency Analysis means that every pair combination is counted each time it appears. Only works in drag  and drop format under System 7.0.

It sometimes is useful to know at a glance if a  folder contains anything and this will do exactly that.

This is especially  handy if you really meant to empty the trash and didn't want your folder or desktop all messed up.

I found that the drag/drop apps out there  that change type/creators were too slow for me and I wanted something  faster. You invoke Get More Info by selecting the desired file(s) in the  Finder and then holding down the option key while choosing 'Get Info' from  the File menu in the Finder (or press cms-option-i after you select the  file(s) ). A modal dialog will open allowing you to change the type,  creator and any of the Finder flags for the file(s) selected.

Enclosed is edition 1.0.2 of Airport QuickStart. It now loads a lot sooner  (maybe a few seconds so) and no longer exhibits the incompatibility with  Now Startup. It is no longer a cdev but is an extension instead, which is  fine because the cdev never worked anyway (there's nothing to configure in  this extension...you simply hold down the 'Q' key at startup to make it  work).

AlphaSound requires the new Sound Manager and the new File Manager in  System 7. Since it is not an application in the traditional sense, you will find it hard to launch under previous systems, yet, even if you do manage  to do so, AlphaSound will politely check its operating environment and  silently quit. AlphaSound plays the sound asynchronously—that is, the sound plays while your Macintosh computer continues to do other tasks.

(For example, I keep mine  set at 1 day, so I always have exactly the last 24 hours worth of trash in  my trashcan.) TrashMan works with all local mounted volumes except  floppies. If you use TrashMan, you need never choose ‘Empty Trash’ from the ‘Special’ menu ever again, and yet still receive the benefits of the new  non-emptying trash in System 7.0.
ToggleAT.cpt             System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Powerbook:ToggleAT.cpt                      1       9K     10/26/92     ToggleAT - is an FKEY for the Macintosh PowerBook. The intent of this FKEY  isto be able to avoid going to the Chooser to turn off AppleTalk every time you take your PowerBook on the road since this requires a menu item, a  button click, an “Are you sure” dialog, an OK dialog and a close box.  Turning it back on requires a menu item, a button click, an OK dialog and a close box. This is almost more trouble than it is worth. So, I wanted an  FKEY that allowed me to blast AppleTalk off with a single key combo and hit the road. This is the ToggleAT FKEY. It comes as resource ID 12, which is only useful if you use a macro program like QuicKeys to trigger it. If you want to use it without such, you will need to renumber it.

With this extension installed, when you print to a  LaserWriter printer which is not available (because the printer is turned  off, or your computer is not connected to the correct Appletalk network),  the document will be delayed indefinately in the PrintMonitor Documents  folder in the System Folder. Later, when this computer detects that the  printer for a document is available, it will cause the document to print  immediately in the background. This extension is most useful when used on a Macintosh Powerbook or Portable computer, because it is possible to print  documents while 'on the road'.

Another great use for it is to keep several copies (the app is only about  12k decompressed) on your desktop, each with different settings. You could have one to set GIF files so they'll launch into GifConverter. You could  have one to set text files to your favorite word processor or text editor.  See the accompanying list of file and creator types for more possible  conversions.
VMTuner.cpt              System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:U-Z:VMTuner.cpt                      0      83K     10/14/92     VMTuner - System 7 offers you the ability to 'extend' the available memory  by pretending your Macintosh has more RAM than it actually has installed.  Instead, the Mac uses a file on disk to store portions of the RAM it  currently doesn't need in order to make room for another portion it needs  to use now. This way of extending memory is called virtual memory (VM), and it happens transparently for the applications, except for one thing: speed. The so-called swapping of portions of RAM from and to the disk causes your  computer to slow down considerably. The larger you set the virtual memory  size, the slower your Mac will get.

It accomplishes this by  moving fonts to/from the Fonts folder (inside the System Folder) from/to a  (newly created) "Disabled Fonts" folder inside the "Fonts" folder. Doing  this effectively hides fonts from the System, which doesn't install them at startup. Fonts which are hidden from the System this way are not  "installed"; that is, they do not show up in Font menus and such.

It provides a simple method for replacing an icon in the  Finder's Desktop File.  Normally, you would have to rebuild the Desktop  File by holding down command-option when rebooting and then waiting for the Finder to rebuild the entire Desktop File.  While this is still recommended when adding, changing or removing substantial numbers of application and  other files from your hard drive, when designing that one icon for your  special folder or new application DeBNDL is the ticket.

It will  reappear on the desktop when the Macintosh is restarted." If you’re annoyed by this alert, you can turn it off by using ResEdit. Details inside!

Since keeping up-to-date with the current revisions of your Macintosh software is important, using Version is an easy way to  produce a listing of your current versions. Use Version to produce a  listing of your current revisions of software to determine compatibility  and/or the need to upgrade.

If there are no other applications running,  the Finder will simply restart again, so be sure another process is in the  background. Quitting the Finder will give you about 300K of memory, but you will lose the configurable part of the apple menu, so be sure you have  launched all the apps that you will need. I wrote Kill Finder because I  needed a quick and easy way to make the Finder quit. Some programs will  make use of the free memory through temporary memory options and such. Kill Finder requires System 7.0 or higher, supports Apple Events, and is 32 bit compatible. Enjoy!

If you elect to make changes to the icon, you have the option to save the new icon in a  separate file (perhaps for use at a later date) or you may update the icon  for the file itself, similar to the way you can paste custom icons in  System 7's Get Info dialog for files.

Its a piece of  software that lets you use some extra RAM memory as a really fast hard  disk. The disk will appear on your desktop just like any other hard disk,  and you can copy files to it just like normal. The only difference between a ramdisk and a normal disk is that when you turn the power off to your  Mac, or restart, the contents of the ramdisk are lost. This is one reason  AppDisk has several options to automatically save a copy of the ramdisk  contents onto your hard disk. The difference between AppDisk and most other ramdisk programs is that the AppDisk gets the memory for its disk from its  application memory.

The author is Dan Weisman whom I've  tried to get-a-hold through his internet address and failed.  I took the  liberty to modify it slightly to create an Icl8. The docs. give information on where to send the shareware contribution.  FinderEdit allows the user to modify file mappings, change the font string, change alias styles, change  information under the "get info" box, and add "Quit" commands to the  finder.  Obviously when it's in use it shuts off the finder so I don't  recommend running any other applications in the background while FinderEdit is active.

To do so, hold down the "cntl" key (the "control"  key on desktop keyboards) while clicking the trackball (or mouse) button.  Now even after you release the trackball button, the Macintosh will still  think that the button is down. Not until you click a second time will the  Mac "unlock", or release, the button.

Bail gives  you an opportunity early in the launch cycle of the application to quit.  When any application loads, Bail shows a couple of dots up in the left  corner for approximately 3 seconds.  If you wish to bail out before the  loading contines, hold down the mouse button and you will return  immediately to the Finder.  If you don't want to wait for the 3 seconds,  hold down the 'g' key ([G]o, get it?).

PowerBook owners will see what  happens when the CPU drops into rest mode, the display will catch up with  this as soon as you move the trackball or hit a key. Both of these apps use the GetNextEvent thingy in the event loop and should get the maximum number of nullevents etc.

To install Earth,   simply put it into your System Folder and reboot.  Once it is installed,   placing the cursor in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and waiting  a fraction of a second will put the spinning globe away (or bring it back). Earth 1.1 may be freely used and copied as long as it is not sold for  profit without my permission and any redistribution includes this file.   (Enjoy!) Discolour causes the Finder to display  beautiful full-color icons in place of the black and white floppy disk  icons when you are in 16 color mode or greater.  Just drag Discolour onto  your System Folder icon and restart your Macintosh to activate it.

Ping doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but  it runs in only 30K of memory; small enough to make it possible to run as  startup item for most macs. The problem with most larger talk applications  is that they’re too large to run, so noone bothers, so you can’t talk after all.

This verb also depends on the randomness  of the random number generator - you will probably want to install the  Randomize verb, that overcomes a bug in Frontier™ 1.0 related to the random number generator. The fortunes comes in two sizes (at present) - big and  small; the big one requires more memory, and you may have to increase the  memory size for the Frontier application in some environments.

It basically simulates clicking the Sleep button. It turns out that there are 3  different dialogs (in increasing order of severity) that might appear,  depending on the situation, (1) AppleTalk is turned on, (2) You have a file server mounted, (3) Some program is actively using AppleTalk.
Site-to-Site 1.0.cpt     System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:S:Site-to-Site 1.0.cpt     1.0              0      24K      7/28/92     Site-to-Site 1.0 - Site-to-Site, a drag-and-drop utility (Drop Rob-Box),  moves all selected items (disks, folders, files) into a newly created or  existing directory. If items are moved from one disk to another, the items  can be optionally deleted from the source disk. Integrity of directory  contents (file locations, labels, etc.) is maintained.

It prompts you for the name of the application and then  creates an outline of all the scripts in its "app table". Written by Dave  Winer for Baiss Magnusson of AutoDesk, to help list his 200+ Frontier  verbs! It's a good example of how to use the table.visit verb, which seems  to be kind of confusing. Maybe this script will clear up the confusion?

Or every hour on the hour? That's what the Scheduler Suite is for --  it turns Frontier into a real-time operating system for scripts.  There are two menu items that add a new task to the schedule. Add an Hourly Task…  adds a task that runs every hour-on-the-hour. The command prompts you for a single-line script. Click on OK to add the task. If there's a task you want performed every night at 2AM, select the Add an Overnight Task… command.

It modifies "Get  Info" dialog box to display an application's System 7 savvy and 32-bit  cleanliness.  Invaluable for testing applications--don't find out the hard  way. Due to popular demand, we have been able to glean a bit more  information regarding the codes provided by this init.  Savvy apparently  reads the SIZE resource and reports the settings contained in that  resource.

The bug is that the pseudo-random number generator uses the same sequence everytime Frontier is launched - this may be useful in some circumstances, but was  not for me. When the Randomize verb is installed in Frontier, a code  resource (of type RAND) is added to the Frontier.root file - the code  contained in this resource "seeds" the psuedo-random number generator  sequence with the current time of day. A call to Randomize in your  customStartup script is suggested.

It  allows you to create a connection between a remote computer and a local  area network. We like ARA at UserLand, in fact we use it to bridge  computers here all the time. It works. Then we heard that Apple was  offering an API for ARA -- we couldn't resist creating a small "applet" to  bridge ARA to Frontier script writing. As a result, your scripts can now  operate over a phone line! This is going to be very interesting. Using ARA  Server and Frontier, you can automatically initiate an ARA connection,  manage it, and terminate the connection.

They are a complementary pair that make dealing with System  7's AppleMenu much easer. If you drag an application or document onto the  AppleEaseIn Icon (I keep mine on the desktop next to the trash) an Alias of the file will Appear in the Apple Menu. AppleEaseOut is an INIT (Er, thats  Extension in Apple's newspeak) so in order to use it you must load it into  the Extensions folder (inside the system folder) and restart. With  AppleEaseOut installed you can select an item from the AppleMenu with the  <option> key pressed and it will be removed from the AppleMenu out to the  Desktop.

This extension does  nothing on other Macintosh computers. The problem addressed only manifests  itself under certain conditions.  When a color monitor is connected to the  on-board video circuitry and the Monitors control panel is set to millions  of colors, certain color manipulation commands may not work in some  graphics application programs. The problem is not destructive.  Your  machine will not crash and data will not be corrupted.  Installing the 950  Color Addition corrects the problem.

The file  information includes the File Type and File Creator, the size of the data  and resource fork, and the fRefNum values for the data and resource fork  (if they are open). 3. Examine information about volumes. This includes the total number of files on the volume, the volume block size, drive number,  device driver, etc.

This Frontier  suite is designed for people using Dantz Development's Retrospect 1.3 with  removable media (such as SyQuest cartridges, Bernoulli disks, MO disks,  etc.). It's mostly useful for unattended incremental backups that do not  require adding members (cartridges) during a backup sessionThe main feature of this suite is that it will eject & unmount the backup volume after a  Retrospect scripted backup is executed. In the past I have used  Retrospect's Calendar feature and the "Retro.Startup" system extension to  auto-execute backups during the night.

System 7 allows these to be replaced via a copy/Paste and  these will give you a leg up on brightening up your desktop.  The  instructions for copying them, as well as creating new ones, are included.  They work in black and white as well as color, but color really helps to  appreciate them.

For example, drop a text file in and move it to a Text Files  folder. Or drop a Word document into a Word docs folder. Or a folder or  disk containing text files, Word files, and PICT files, and move them to  their own separate directories on their disk. Drag sets of files, folders,  or disks into the application, “Drop Box-style”. Router will scan folders  and disks provided depending on yourpreferences, and will move (if  preferences allow, of course) each of the selected items to a directory you have set. Drop Boxes require Apple Events, and thus System 7.0 or higher.

It  toggles the processor cacheinstantaneously, allowing a user to work more  conveniently with '040 incompatible software. The '040 Macs ship with  "Cache Switch" which does thsame thing, however it forces a user to reboot  each time a change is made Version 1.1 is an update and works correctly  with AppleTalk (version 1.0 disabled AppleTalk after switching the cache.)  Many users asked for this bug fix.

New features include an "unstoppable shutdown" option, support for low-end macs, and other minor enhancements (see documentation). Shutdown Items lets you do certain things during shutdown, program your mac to shut down at a certain time, and also  allows you to shutdown other macs across a network.  Items you want to  launch during shutdown are placed in your Shutdown Items folder, just as  items you want to launch at startup are placed in your Startup Items  folder.  You may place PICT files and QuickTime movies in your Shutdown  Items folder, as well as anything the Finder can open (sounds,applications, aliases, etc.).

The primary use for this is as a tool for HyperCard  developers to keep track of XCMDs and XFCNs which may be located on several disks - some even off-line. But it can be used for any named resource; snd  's being a logical candidate. ResLogger looks in the specified folder and  all subfolders, for the specified resource. It then makes a sorted list of  the resources. Each resource name is a heading (summit). The subheadings  are the paths to each file that contains that resource.

Steve  Krouse got so tired of making the File/Make trip that he spent two months  of his life writing MyAliAsMaker (MAAM). Leave a copy of MAAM on your  desktop. Whenever you want to make an alias, drag the document or  application on top of the MAAM icon. MAAM will do its thing, and a copy of  the file/app will appear next to it on the desktop.

It mounts Appleshare Volumes with usernames and  passwords intact.  Mauncher saves the documents in a scrambled format to  protect data and has the option of specifying passwords for script access.  Mauncher is extremely useful under network environments where frequent  changes in volume access is a common requirement or where control and  management of volume access and applications is desired.  It can certainly  be used in non-networked environments for its application management  features.

What beP  does is change one bit in the 'itlc' resource in your system file. To do  this yourself, just use resedit to open up your system file & edit the  resource yourself.

Knowlege  of ResEdit required (definitly!) System 7 required.

Though I haven't tested it on a Mac Portable, I suspect it will work fine on that too. SafeSleep will not load on any Mac which does not  have the Power Manager. SafeSleep blanks the screen and requests a password whenever a sleeping Mac is awakened. SpinD is a small FKey that spins down  the internal hard drive in Macs that support that function. It's designed to completely  remove a file's data from your disk and make it totally unrecoverable. It's a scary idea, but it's sometimes necessary. You can also just delete the  item and not shred it. Drag sets of files, folders, or disks into the  application, "Drop Box-style." Obliterate will delete the selected items  and their contents. Open files or files on locked disks will not be  deleted.

The alias is actually a separate file created and maintained by the Finder. However, if a user deletes the original file, the alias file still remains. TrashAlias remedies this problem by automatically deleting any alias files  associated with a file (or folder) when it is deleted.

One  would think that “users” would have better things to do with their time.   This is why I wrote QTrash™. However, if you switch  to another application, the Mac no longer remembers that you wanted the  other applications' windows to be hidden, and you have to reselect Hide  Others to unclutter your screen once again. HideAlways fixes this problem  by remembering that you selected Hide Others and sees to it that the other  programs stay hidden as you switch around between applications.

When  connected to the host there's a limit of 30 minutes per session. However,  the traversal the script does can take longer than 30 minutes. Solution:  every time the script dives into a topic, it pushes its address on a stack. Every time thru the loop a sub-script checks to see if the timer expired.  If so, it logs off, then logs back on.

Follow these steps to configure the PowerBook suite. On your desktop  computer's hard disk, create a new folder, call it Shared Folder, for  example. Determine which folders on your desktop computer you want to  travel with. For each of these folders, make an alias of the folder and  place that alias in Shared Folder. From Frontier's Suites menu, select the  PowerBook command. Select the "Set Home Path…" command in the Configure  sub-menu, and select the folder you created in step 2.

Find Bogus Dates.cpt     System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:Frontier:Find Bogus Dates.cpt                      0       4K      3/22/92     Find Bogus Dates - It's a Frontier desktop script, so when you double-click on it in the Finder it searchs all the files and folders in the folder it  was launched from. As it scans it checks both the modification and creation dates for all files and folders and stops when it finds a date that Is  earlier than January 24, 1984 -- the shipdate of the Macintosh. It's hard to imagine that you have any files older than that! You may want to  modify the script to put a later date in here; a likely candidate is the  date you got your Macintosh.

This  Frontier script will let you batch convert all your 3.0 files (including  libraries, extesnions, and templates) to have the new creator, thus  allowing you double click 3.0 files for launching.  This script searched my 160 MB partition of about 3500 files & converted my XPress files, all in  about 10 mintues.

You can do  it manually or automatically. AppleLink.numbers.outline has a list of all  the phone numbers sorted by state. Run AppleLink.numbers.script to get a  prompt for the state or city you're looking for, enter the state or city  and let the Frontier script do the searching for you.

You can guess their meaning. You will be asked to show AND the folder which will act as the source and where the aliases  should be saved. When run, it will alias all files in the source except the invisible "Icon" file, if any. All aliases will be prefixed with the  current month and date plus one space.
FileInfo.cpt             System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:F:FileInfo.cpt                      2      21K      3/22/92     This control panel is a shareware utility (for System 7.0 or later) that  expands the capability of the Finder's "Get Info" window by reporting  additional information about files in the comment box. This information,  normally hidden from users, includes the codes for the file type and file  creator, and also various file attributes. With this utility, the  information can also be seen by checking the "Show Comments" checkbox in  the Views control panel (new with System 7.0) to cause the comments to  appear when you view lists of files in the Finder.
DropWatch.cpt            System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 tools:D:DropWatch.cpt                      0       7K      3/22/92     DropWatch is a System Extension (INIT) that will watch for items being put  into a particular folder.  This is useful if you maintain a drop folder on  a file server or on your local machine (using System 7's Personal File  Sharing feature). WARNING: You currently need to use ResEdit to configure  DropWatch.  If you don't have ResEdit or don't feel comfortable using it,  then you'll have to find another utility.  Sorry. Once configure, DropWatch will look at the number of files/folder contained in the watched folder  every few seconds. Double click it, and you can set FixCreator option. Any  file whose name ends with “.rsrc” can be changed into type of “rsrc”  with  creator of “RSED”. Or any file with “.GIF” into “GIFf” with “8BIN”. Use *  as a a wild card, like “*.GIF”, “*.rsrc”, or “Picture *”. File name search  is NOT case-sensitive. It's for use with the new 8•24GC INIT, use of whicseems to turn the data  cache off.No promises, no guarantees. Ed Ludwig, who noted the problem, has asked Apple whether there's a reason it turns off the data cache when the  8•24GC INIT loads. One of the really cool parts of the NPA were 'Desktop Printers'.  This allowed you to have an icon on your desktop which represented a particular printer. You could then drag a document onto the particular printer icon, and it would print to  that printer.  Very useful when you have multiple Laserwriters, a Fax  Modem, Print to Disk utility, etc. Well, the NPA disappeared, and with it  'Desktop Printers'....In order to correct this MAJOR oversight, I wrote  DTPrinter which implements 'Desktop Printers' NOW under System 7.
DropSave.cpt             System7DL        AMUG CD:Files:System7 Tools:D:DropSave.cpt                      2       5K      9/06/91     With DropSave installed, when you shift click on the title bar of a  document in an application which has a “Save As” menu item, the document  will zoom down to a region shaped like a document icon.  You can drag this  region around and drop it on a Finder window.  DropSave will then make the  application save the document in that window.  By option-shift-clicking on the title bar, the application’s “Save As” dialog will appear so you can  change the name of the document if you wish.  (You can even move around  directories if you really wanted to.)  The document will reappear sometime  during this process.

Copyright © 1991, all rights reserved. I have a 2MB Macintosh that is sometimes the only one I have around to  develop with.  MPW just doesn’t cut it with only 700k (which is all it gets with 7.0). Bully gets me what I need by killing Finder and using its space. With my setup, this can get me as much as 1.2MB. I built Bully with MPW  Pascal on my 2MB machine while running System 7. To use Bully Quit  everything you can or want to quit. Drop one application or document on  Bully. Limitations Bully does not open the document you dropped, but it  does find it’s application and get it launched for you.

In  its current implementation, you have to hold the option-key down to get the feature to work. Missing Features: The current version does not use the  International Utilities routine "FindWord" to determine what is a word, and what is not. Known Bugs: There is still an initial debugger break (NOP it  out). It does not handle anything but the 1st word correctly. Single letter words are not converted to keep from conflicting with menu key equivalents.

To use this System 7.0 dependent program,  create a new folder and place EasyLaunch in it. Then make aliases of all  frequently used applications and place them in the folder with  EasyLaunch.you should place an alias of EasyLaunch in the Startup Items  folder in order to have it open on start-up.

This hack allows you to drag  items from the finder and drop them on  items in the apple menu. AKA - with AKA when you ctrl-drag an item(s) in  the finder it creates an alias at the destination location instead of  moving the item itself. Basura - When you command-delete, selected items in the front window of the finder will be thrown in the trash can. If you  option-cmd-delete items will be thrown in thetrash and then the trash can  will be emptied. Use Disk Doubler 3.7 to decompress.

And in the System 7.0 docs, Apple tells us that Font/DA mover is no longer used... This stack tells how I  used ResEdit (2.0 or higher) to add the necessary 'FOND' resource and  includes graphics.
